Description:

Rare Low Serial Number Unique H. Pieper 'Mitrailleuse' Seven-Barrel .22 Rimfire Volley Gun. Marketed circa 1888, the Pieper Mitrailleuse (sometimes referred to as a goose gun) was marketed towards game and market hunters, and boasted a 3' pattern at 125 yards. Pieper’s 7-barrel Mitrailleuse was essentially a rimfire volley gun. It was offer in both .22 rimfire and .32 rimfire calibers, both models having clusters of 7 rifled barrels which fired simultaneously with a single trigger pull. The purpose was to offer an alternative to the large-bore punt gun for effective hunting of fowl at extended range. A volley from one of these was essentially like firing a round of buckshot, but with each pellet actually a rifled bullet, thus providing much improved accuracy. The bottom of the barrel is marked with the serial number "52" with "LJ" just above the serial number. Caliber/ Gauge: .22 cal. Serial Number: 52 Working Order: Firearm has not been tested; Background Check: Not Required; Keywords: Firearms, Guns This very rare and extremely sought after rifle is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age. The barrel sleeve bluing is still present with some areas of brown patina. The action has a gray & brown patina. Handling marks present through out. The forearm has been glued together as it appears to have broke into to pieces with a small part of the front edge missing. NO metal disc speed loaders included. Please see picture for details and complete condition.; Ref: BD1381

  • Condition:
  • This very rare and extremely sought-after rifle is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age. The barrel sleeve bluing is still present with some areas of brown patina. The bore shows light wear commensurate with age but is bright with strong rifling. The action has a gray & brown patina. Handling marks present throughout. The forearm has been glued together as it appears to have broken in the past into two pieces with a small part of the front edge missing. The barrel sleeve blueing shows wear under where the forearm sits from the original glue that was used to hold the forearm together. The forearm was removed recently and had all of the extra old glue removed to show the finish and to locate and verify the serial number. When the vintage glue was removed the two pieces came apart and were reglued lightly back together so any future professional repair or restoration work will be easier. NO metal disc speed loaders included. Please see the picture for details and the complete conditions.
