Description:

Pre-Ban Scarce Early Belgian FN FAL HOWCO Import M44 Semi-Automatic .308 Paratrooper Rifle. This FAL (French: Fusil Automatique Leger – English: Light Automatic Rifle) is a battle rifle designed by Belgian small arms designer Diudonnie Saive and manufactured by FN in Herstal, Belgium. During the Cold War, the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the notable exception of the United States. It is one of the most widely used rifles in history, having been used by more than 90 countries. Because of its’ prevalence and widespread usage among the militaries of many NATO and first-world countries during the Cold War, it received the title “The Right Arm of The Free World”. This FN-FAL rifle sports an 18” inch barrel (19 1/2” inches with flash hider) and is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester). The barrel has front and rear adjustable iron sights. This rifle incorporates a “folding” charging handle, black, synthetic folding buttstock and pistol grip, synthetic ventilated dark olive forearm, sling swivels and a black web sling. This rifle comes with five (5) 20-round and one (1) 5-round magazines. There were 1,375 semi-auto FAL Paratrooper rifles that were imported into the U.S.A. before the various bans on military style rifles. This rifle is an all-original, FN made, Paratrooper rifle that was imported by: Howco Dist. Inc., Laurel, MD. This is the paratrooper version of the famous FN-FAL rifle as produced by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Belgium. This specific rifle was manufactured in 1981 and was marketed by the HOWCO company in Maryland as the M44 rifle, intended for Law Enforcement use, without being a full-automatic rifle. These rifles have all the same features as the FN-FAL rifle except they were produced in a smaller, more compact version (as the 50.63 model) that features an 18 inch barrel and folding stock. The right side of the receiver is marked in three lines "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL/FN. 308 MADE IN BELGIUM/GUN SOUTH INC. BIRMINGHAM AL.", with the right side of the magazine well marked "HOWCO DIST. INC./LAUREL MD. U.S.A." It has the standard adjustable front sight and fixed combat rear sight, adjustable gas regulator, short flash hider, sling swivels, and composite handguards and pistol grip.
