Early 1840's Low Serial Number Stocking & Co. Percussion Pepperbox 6 Shot Revolver. Pepperbox revolvers were so named because of the similarity of the front view of the weapon was so reminiscent of a Pepper Pot of the time being a circle of round holes. This example is in very nice used condition. Made in the 1840s, it is a .31 caliber six shot percussion pepperbox revolver, manufactured by Stocking & Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts. It measures 7 3/4 inches in overall length, with a 4 inch long barrel/cylinder. It is quite nicely engraved on both sides of the action. The grips are wood and each side has what appears to be a Nickel plated diamond shape that could be engraved with the Owner's initials. The revolver is single action only, and fitted with a long Cocking Spur Hammer which upon depressing rotates the barrels to the next chamber. The trigger, inside its standard loop guard then discharges the weapon. It is also marked on the flats between the barrels with: "STOCKING & CO. WORCESTER" & "CAST-STEEL WARRANTED". It is marked with serial number "78" on the cylinder, frame under the grips, and on both grip scales. The main spring is also marked "20" and the frame right next to it is marked "20M". Rounded bright steel action without nipple-shield, bar-hammer with thumb-spur and stamped 'Patent Secured 1848' on one side, trigger-guard, and rounded grips each inlaid with a white-metal diamond-shaped plaque Caliber/ Gauge: .31 Serial Number: 78 Working Order: Firearm has not been tested; Background Check: Not Required; Keywords: Firearms, Guns This antique pistol is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age. The action works. The nipple cover is missing. Arizona Gun Dealers must have a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License in order to accept delivery of modern weapons.
