Description:

Predator Full Size Figure (Cast from Kevin Peter Hall). The 1987 movie “Predator” had the world trembling with the notion that humans could be hunted as “Sport”. The actor who had played the Predator in the film was a 7 foot 2 inch tall man named Kevin Peter Hall. This same actor would also portray a Sasquatch named Harry in the film Harry and the Henderson's. Kevin played two different Predators. The second was in the film Predator 2, with Danny Glover. The first, and most well known, was in the movie “Predator”, with Arnold Schwarzenegger. As it has been explained to Kurt Kuhn, this figure was made from a direct cast of Kevin Peter Hall in his Predator Suit in 1987. Needless to say, this is why Kurt Kuhn acquired this piece for the Collection. There is even a slight misfiguration on the right arm bicep from pulling it too quickly out of the mold that had been made of Kevin. What you see in this life size figure is what Kevin appeared as while portraying the Predator in 1987. Artist Dan Grumeretz was tasked with bringing the cast to life. Copying the photos of Kevin as the Predator we all recognize, Dan did a marvelous job in recreating the Predators skin tones and spots. He carefully added the small quills on the Predator’s chest and shoulder. The Predator also has what was referred to as “Dreads” all over his head, as they were to resemble human dreadlocks, but made to look like they were from a species that is much different from humans. Each dread has a decorative ring, bringing a great, personal style to this Predator. The Predator has detailed armor on some of his body, beginning with the face-helmet covering, which has a very menacing look to it. The face looks as if his brow is furled with anger, and the eyes appear to be glaring at you when you look directly at the Predator’s face. On the right side of his helmet, just slightly above and to the right of his eye are three laser dots that he uses to identify and target his prey. On his helmet’s left side there are small hose connections that connect the face helmet to his left shoulder’s armor, which has a small directional cannon mounted upon it. The shoulder armor piece is very large and detailed, and extends to his upper neck and back, indicating a powerful weapon. There is an additional piece of armor covering most of the Predators left breast, which has a thick hose attached from the shoulder to the chest armor. The Chest plate has a strap (cast in) that attaches to the right side shoulder, and also under his right underarm that extends to the rear of the armor on his back. It is like a shoulder holster for a sidearm that some people use today. On his left bicep is more armor that also connects to the large shoulder weapon armor. Each of his forearms have detailed vambraces, each with a specific purpose. His right vambrace had encased two surgically sharpened blades to maul his prey with. The blades on this figure are currently in a permanent extended position. Kurt Kuhn wanted them to look as if the Predator just activated the blades for the kill, so Dan carefully cut the right hand in pieces, preserving each digit on his hand, then repositioning the Predators hand to look like it was activating the blades. It is ominous. The left forearm vambrace has a hose that extends to the to shoulder’s weapon armor, which is clearly a power pack for the entire weapons system. The Vambrace has the lighting we viewed in the film, with the alien race countdown clock, and red blinking LEDS to provide the realistic effects. Both the Face-Helmet and the left Vambrace have toggle switches that activate them. The Vambrace toggle switch is on its top, at the bend of the arm. The three LED targeting lasers activate with the toggle switch located under the Predators chin. There is even more armor that protects the Predators lower extremities and legs, along with body netting, a belt, and fabric coverings. Surprisingly, the Predator only wears sandals as his footwear, which is interesting. The claws on his hands and toes are quite noticeable and are a mark of a true predator. The entire piece stands on a black base that has wheel casters on the bottom of it for ease of positioning, and placing it on display,. with the name “PREDATOR” adorning it. There is much more detail to speak of, and that is best to view in the photos, and especially in person. This piece is outstanding, and receives a huge amount of attention. Most of those who have viewed it on display have had their photo taken with it, as it appears as if a person is truly standing with the original actor in the suit. A true marvel for any collection.
