Description:

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Michael Dorn's Last Worn “WORF” Head/Nose Prosthetic. In 1993 a new Star Trek series was released by the name of Deep Space Nine. The series would take place based on a Space Station that was on the edge of where the Federation boundaries would be. This Space Station was also overseeing a huge, stable wormhole of which connected to the Gamma Quadrant, thus sparking all kinds of amazing storylines. On Deep Space Nine, being a space port for many different races of beings, there were many different looks that required a team of makeup artists to make them come to life that was second to none. In this case, the team assembled was under the direction of the legendary artist, Michael Westmore. One of these artists was Karen Westerfield. She was the makeup artist for the actor Armin Shimerman, turning him into the ever-loved bartender / underhanded businessman Ferengi, Quark. A few seasons into the series would be the ending of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. With the movie Star Trek: Generations story having crashed the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, this scattered some of the storyline’s main crew of the Enterprise, including the fantastic Klingon character, played by Michael Dorn, named Worf. The Klingon would come to join the characters of Deep Space Nine in the beginning of season 4, and be a primary character through its end before returning to a few more Star Trek: The Next Generation storied movies. In the early 2000’s Kurt Kuhn was meeting with a few of the Deep Space Nine actors, and this is when he met Karen Westerfield, Armin’s makeup artist for DS9. Upon becoming friends, Kurt was at her home, and she knew that he was putting together a Gallery, and she had Michael Dorn’s last worn head/nose prosthetic for DS9, which is what you see here today. Usually, the prosthetics would be worn by the primary actor first, and only once, before then going to their stunt doubles to use. This one was only worn by Michael Dorn. It is truly fantastic with the ridges and skin tone we all came to recognize as being of Worf. At the time Kurt acquired this piece, Karen did not have a full sized mannequin head to place it on, and Kurt did not want to risk changing it to an appropriate sized display head. It is made of a rubber material and is extremely delicate now being nearly 25 years old. It must be kept in good climate conditions. This piece has been in a climate controlled case since Kurt obtained it in 2004. It is a true showpiece that countless numbers of people have admired while on display.
